好動人的往日情感呀，這是繼「綠袖子」（Greensleeves）之後，英格蘭最有名的民謠，這是一首古老的「謎歌」（Riddle Song），作於16-17世紀之間，作者不祥。
所謂「謎歌」就是，男女之間為了表達彼此的深情，故意要求對方幫他完成一些比較困難的事，與其說是考驗對方，不如說是一種含蓄的愛的表現，就如同同歌詞中的「請她為我做一件白麻布襯衫，不可沒有縫線與精巧的剪裁」、「請她為我找到一塊土地，在海與沙灘之間」。
Scarborough是一個地名，位於英國中部的東邊海岸的一個小鎮，Fair是指當地一個花卉市集，所以歌詞不斷的重複一些美麗花卉的名字。
這首歌原本不是那麼有名，但在1967年電影「畢業生」（The Graduate）將其作為電影插曲。由於劇情的爭議性，這首插曲與主題曲「沈默之聲」（The sound of silence）由賽門與葛芬柯（Simon and Garfunkel）優美的和聲與獨特的嗓音演唱，更是絕配，二人將這二首歌推向世界舞台，風靡全世界，賽門與葛芬柯也因而一夜成名，之後這二首歌已等同他們二人的招牌歌曲，至今仍歷久不衰。
英國跨界女高音莎拉布萊曼（Sarah Brightman） 在2000年發行的作品「月光女神」（La Luna），收錄Scaborough fair，以其高伉的嗓音與獨特的表演方式，再一次將這首歌推向世界舞台，讓原本已熟悉賽門與葛芬柯歌聲的聽眾，再一次有不同的聆聽享受。
